We were talking last night on our horrible "date" (details later) about vacation, and decided that we will not be going. It was supposed to be in four weeks, so I was starting to make plans & wanted to make hotel reservations, etc. My hubby is a Contractor & is starting a room addition/ Florida room in the next week or so, and feels it would not be right to leave in the middle of the job. I understand, but am understandably disappointed.
He was hoping to have been done before we left, but knows that it will take longer than four weeks to complete, so we'd just have to wait until after it is complete. That would normally be fine, but we were planning around the kid's school schedules & their scheduled Spring Break.
Bummer! I was looking forward to visiting a couple of our friends while we were there too :(
------------------------------------------
About that "date" I mentioned...
Last night, we lined up a sitter so that we could go have dinner. Of course, we took Ava (who has been SO much better & barely fussy these days). We decided to eat dinner at Bob Evans, and see a movie afterward. As soon as we were seated, she began to fuss. She would not nurse, yet acted hungry. I could not discreetly try either, as every time I laid her down she would go into a full fit. I decided to go to the dreaded bathroom to try & nurse her. NASTY & no seats...great! She settled down, so I went back to the table. She fussed the entire time & each time I tried to nurse her, she just got MAD AS HECK.
After 2-3 trips to the bathroom & her screaming and screaming (and everyone staring at us, of course) I just took her out to the car. I left Harry alone in the restaurant, I had taken ONE BITE of my food. She continued to scream the whole time and was acting tired & hungry, but would not eat. I usually have a bottle in the diaper bag, but no such luck this time. She is breastfed & only gets a bottle when I am not around (which is not often) so I never thought she would PREFER a bottle. (I was wrong)!
After trying EVERYTHING (including music turned up LOUD while I cried too) to comfort her, I decided that I should go back into the restaurant & let Daddy take care of her while I ate. I saw that he was already packing up everything, and I just stayed put.
He came out & apologized that things had gone so wrong, and that he did not get out faster. He was asking what the heck was wrong with her & I told him that she seemed tired & hungry, so the only thing we could figure out was that she was feeling l-a-z-y and wanted a bottle (??). We drove to WalMart & bought one. She took a few ounces of formula, but continued crying. It had now been 1 1/2 hours. of. crying.
We sat in the parking lot of the movies, hoping she would eat more and fall asleep. She wouldn't. I was VERY upset & said (or maybe yelled, LOL) "let's just GO HOME..." so we stopped for a frozen cappuccino (he was trying to make me feel better now) and a movie (yes, she was still crying).
So, we get a movie (COMEDY, of course) and popcorn and head home. Poor babysitter had only been there 2 hours & was shocked to see us home so quickly.
Ava was HAPPY once we got home! Smiling & flirting, perfectly opposite of what she had been all night. It really seems as if she does not like to be around alot of people!? Is there some disorder that babies can have? Fear of public places :) This girl is soooo particular. It is her way or the highway...and last night I was so ready to hit the highway.
I'm glad I did not though :) We all watched Big Momma's House 2 & laughed and ate popcorn and had a relaxing night together.
MUCH needed...
Ang, my youngest nephew *preferred* being at home to being anywhere. He didn't like crowds, he didn't like strange places and he only wanted to sleep in *his crib*. If you have a sitter who doesn't mind having a bitty bug - and you don't mind leaving her - do it! {{{hugs}}} to you on the bad date and the canceled vacation. I'd be bummed, too!
And hey - love the new photo of you on your blog!

oooh, nice photo! Did you get new hair? I got new hair this weekend - sorry I can't show it, but it's good.
Sorry about your date, and your vacation - been there, done that, both things. Hope a plan comes together at some point - getting away, even for a little while, refreshes the soul like nothing else, I find.

I know my comments are late, but I just wanted to send you some big HUGS!! I know how feel. For the first 2 yrs., going to a restaurant with Claire has been an ordeal, and just only recently that she's able to "behave". Anyhow, is it possible for you to take the kids out of school for a week while you all go on vacation? I know some parents do that since Spring Break is such an insanely crazy & busy time in places like Disneyland and WDW. If you go say in the last week of April or May, a lot of hotels & airlines (if you decide to fly) have discounts as well.
